In addition to the Pigeon Forge Pottery Blue Owl
shown here, Pigeon Forge Pottery includes a huge selection of wheel-turned and molded art pottery and tableware. The designs and colors celebrate the mountains. Beginning in 1946, founder Douglas Ferguson (and other potters) produced black bear and other animal figures. Clay slip dogwood designs decorate many items. Pigeon Forge woodland inspired shapes include owls, raccoon, birds, field mice, chipmunk and frogs. In addition, the collector looks for square tiles with quilt block designs and round tiles and coasters with woodland and folk art designs. Items traveled far and wide as folks returned home from vacations in the Smoky Mountains of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Production ceased in 2000, following the death of owner-potter-founder, D. Ferguson. Today, due to his international reputation for developing beautiful glazes, collectors from around the world seek out Pigeon Forge Pottery!
